UC Pool

The Whitten University Center (UC) Swimming Pool is an Olympic-sized outdoor pool located beside the Lakeside Patio. The temperature is kept at 83 degrees with +/- 2 degrees of variance, it is chilled during the summer and heated in the winter. The UC Pool offers short-course lap lanes, a low-board diving area, and of course a great deck for sunning, studying, or listening to music while enjoying the beautiful weather.

Admission and Memberships

Entrance to the UC Pool is free for current students, faculty, and staff with a valid 'Cane Card.

Alumni, dependents* of faculty/staff, and community members are eligible to use the UC Pool by purchasing a monthly membership or with a daily guest pass purchased by a current student or UC Pool member. Guest passes cost $8 per guest per day.

Membership Information

You can purchase a membership at any point during a month, and it will be valid through the 15th of the following month. To renew your membership, please call 305-284-5625 between the 1st and 15th of each month or visit the UC Pool front desk. All non-renewed memberships will expire on the 15th of each month. Members may cancel their membership at any time, however, all payments are final. Therefore, once a payment is made, refunds will not be issued for that month. 

  • Alumni Membership: $35 per month
  • Faculty/Staff Dependent Membership: $35 per month
  • Community Member Monthly Membership: $40 per month

University alumni must have a valid Alumni 'Cane Card and faculty/staff dependents must have a valid Dependent 'Cane Card in order to purchase a membership at the discounted rate and to enter the facility. Community members must present their membership card upon entry.

The UC Pool Front Desk has officially gone paperless which means that all payments must be made in the form of credit or debit card. Payments in the form of cash and check are no longer accepted under any circumstances.

*Note: Guests who are 13 years of age and older are required to purchase a guest pass or be a member. Those 12 years old and under are permitted to use the UC Pool for free, provided that they are joined by a parent/guardian who is a student who current UC Pool member.

  • UC Pool Policies

    • Lifeguard must be on surveillance duty on deck to use the pool.
    • No talking or distracting lifeguards on duty. For all questions and concerns, please ask the front desk attendant or lifeguard inside the office.
    • No running, pushing, or other dangerous actions on the pool deck.
    • No rollerblades, skateboards, or bicycles are allowed on the deck.
    • No profanity or vulgar actions.
    • Music from personal devices will be permitted only with headphones.
    • Only service animals may enter the deck but must be leashed and shall not enter the water. Management may ask what service the animal provides prior to entrance into the pool area.
    • Appropriate swim attire must be worn at all times. Management reserves the right to ask patrons to change attire or leave the pool area if attire is deemed inappropriate. Proper swim attire is defined as clothing that is designed for use in the water; specific items are listed below for reference. In addition, all swimwear must not indecently expose parts of the body, be transparent, or display obscene or offensive pictures and slogans. This list is not exhaustive, and management reserves the right to determine if swimwear is appropriate.
    • Not Allowed:
      • Cotton material
      • Bathing suits that do not have proper coverage
      • Undergarments
      • Jeans and clothing with grommets
    • No glass containers on the pool deck.
    • Do not swallow the pool water.
    • Shower before entering.
    • No food or beverage in the pool with the exception of water.
    • Small snacks and non-alcoholic beverages in a sealable container are permitted on the pool deck.
    • Diving is only permitted in the designated area.
    • No flips of any kind are allowed off the edge of the pool.
    • Do not sit, pull, or hang on the lane lines.
    • Any child under the age of 13 may not swim without adult supervision.
    • Children who are not potty trained must wear disposable swim diapers.
    • Patrons with open wounds, sores, or evidence of infectious diseases shall not enter the pool regardless if there is a dressing or band-aid covering said wound.
    • The University Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
    • Management has the right to close the facility for safety reasons. Management may close the pool for reasons such as but are not limited to lightning, lack of chlorine in water, accidental fecal matter release, etc.

    Diving Board Rules

    • No more than one person on the diving board at a time.
    • No more than one bounce on the diving board.
    • No backflips or “trick dives” off the diving board.
    • No goggles or masks on the diving board.
    • No swimming under the diving board.
    • No diving from the side of the board.
    • Swim immediately to the side of the pool after diving.

    Reservation Rates

    The PDF below provides a breakdown of pricing based on the category of user (i.e. student organization, campus department, community organization). The Aquatics Manager will determine the number of lifeguards required; the chart provides the average numbers.

    Filming and Photography Rates

    Requests to reserve the UC Pool for filming or photography must be made at least one month in advance. Additionally, full payment is due two weeks prior to the first date of the reservation.

    • 4 hours: $3,000
    • 8 hours: $5,000 (+$1,000 for each additional hour)

    Hurricane Aquatics

    The Hurricane Aquatics program offers anyone an opportunity to be trained by professional coaches. Learn-to-Swim, Master's Swimming, and age-grouped Diving programs all draw hundreds of people a year to the pool.

    Miami Hurricanes Swimming and Diving

    The UC Pool is the competition training facility for the Miami Hurricanes Swimming & Diving program. The Miami Hurricanes swimming & diving program has been a force in national and international waters for longer than a half-century. Miami has totaled 34 Olympians as a program: four women’s swimmers, nine men’s divers, nine women’s divers and 12 men’s swimmers.
