The SCCAC derives its informal authority to make policy recommendations from the students of the University of Miami in accordance with the resolution passed by the University of Miami students in March 2006 and submitted to the President of the University of Miami on April 3, 2006, stating in part:
“An advisory board for the Student Center, to include undergraduate, graduate, and law students and to be chaired by a student, will be created to provide guidance in establishing policies for building use.”
Every three years, the SCCAC allows student organizations to apply for designated office space in the Student Organization Suite of the Shalala Student Center. Office spaces are extremely limited, and interested organizations must complete a thorough application process.
The Shalala Student Center's Student Organization Suite is open and accessible to all undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Miami. The suite is intended to provide space for students and student organization leaders to meet, collaborate, socialize, and foster academic success. With iconic views of Lake Osceola, the Student Organization Suite is the ideal space for students to work on classwork, plan campus events, connect with peers, and much more. For more information, read the Student Organization Suite General Policies & Procedures.
There are many ways to get involved on campus, to find out more visit the Butler Center for Service & Leadership and Student Activities & Student Organizations. Both departments are located on the second floor of the Shalala Student Center.
The SCCAC meets once a month. The subcommittees meet twice a month.
The council is by invite only.
